Orphans Return to School

Assalam Aleikum brothers and sisters,
May peace and blessings of Allah (SWT) be upon His Prophet and his followers.

Eid-Al Fitr was celebrated with a style in Kenya, a part from the usual fitr food distribution, 20 orphans from major slums in Bungoma managed to get back to school. This was after The Zakat Foundation of America considered their appeal to have school uniforms. The orphans were out of school because the uniform they had was putting them in uncomfortable position with the rest of the students especially from privilleged families.

When we submitted their request to The Zakat Foundation of America, the Foundation quickly responded in a Muslim brotherhood manner.Initially we had thought of supporting 10 orphans but the Foundation considered to support 20 orphans. This was a welcomed gesture which the Deputy District Education Officer, Ms.Jemimah Kigondu welcomed.........I admire the spirit and love that Muslims show to each other. The Zakat Foundation of America have placed these orphans in a privelleged position that will enable them fit emotionally and socially in the acedemic enviroment. On behalf of the Ministry of Education, the teachers and the orphans,I ask Mohammed to send my appreciation and greetings to the Foundation and the people of America for their generosity.

Assalamu Aleikum Ta'Aallah Wa Barakatuh our dear Muslim brothers and sisters,

Allhamudullillahi, with Allah's (SWT) guidance and support from our Muslim world, Muslim Youth Group was able to do one of the mosts successful Ramadan since its inception.

INTRODUCTION
Sponsors
With the support from Muslims who donated through Zakat Foundation of America, Muslim Aid of United Kingdom and local well-wishers, we were able to provide food ration to 169 needy families in Western Kenya.
The Beneficiaries
These families comprised of the extreme whom majority were aged women, widows, socially isolated widows, orphans, family headed children, travelers (preachers), students, aged men, people living with disabilities, the reverts, the terminally ill and those displaced. These were in the rural areas, slums, schools, government prisons and hospitals.
We employed computerized system in running the programme. That made it to be the most successful programme ever.
We started by involving the community volunteers, religious and government leaders in identifying the needy or rather the above mentioned persons.Thereafter, they were assessed and given ration cards. The ration cards were having secrete code numbers without the name of the beneficiary. The beneficiary name was instead noted in the computer alongside the secrete code ration. This was to ensure that the identified beneficiary gets the ration.
Distribution was done using the same system
On distribution day, the beneficiary presented the ration card with his/her national identity card. Then the names verified names checked in the computer. If find rhyming the beneficiary gets to the register to sign for the food.
Alhamudulliahi, we were able to reach out to 360 families with each having an average of 6 members. The Zakat Foundation of America helped us reach 169 families,Muslim Aid helped us reach 124 families. Masomo Foundation helped us break the fast of 44 families and Bungoma Chemist Limited supported us to feed 23 families.
The Iftar was distributed to the families in the three slum areas, remote areas and the slopes of Mt.Elgon.

Om behalf of our Muslim Community who benefited, we thank all our partners for the tremendous support.May Allah (SWT) reward them abundantly.
